Renovate sustainably – don’t buy it new, repair it!
The plastic washer for the tap valve is losing its grip. The plumbing shop recommends a repair specialist. Klemz GmbH in the Bürcknerstr., Neukölln, Berin. There they have small elements for 80 cents. In this way we avoided buying a new fitting.
The cutoff valve for the cold water meter is jammed tight. The plumbing shop recommends a repair specialist. Klemz GmbH They give me a used valve replacement. It fits! So a new one didn’t have to be produced, and I saved some money.
The window latch is damaged. Taking it out and opening out the rivets with a ‘punch‘ tool took 15 minutes’ work, while at the same time avoiding having a new latch made.
It’s also possible to make your own wall paint in an environmentally friendly way. Our attempt with chalk paste, low-fat quark, lithopone pigment and Borax, a catalyst for the protein casein in quark, yielded a pink-grey wall paint with a smooth consistency, suitable for living spaces, but not for our exhibition space, which needs bright walls.
